SKIN-CANCER
Some types of (developing) skin cancer could successfully be suppressed or even
cured with photodynamic therapy (PDT). Examples are basal cell carcinoma, Bowen's
disease and solar- or actinic keratosis. PDT was based on the knowledge that
cancer cells would more easily absorb certain photo sensitisers and were more
reluctant to release them than healthy cells would. Photodynamic therapy was only
allowed to be executed by a physician.
